  LINES FROM THE VINES

Any winemaker will tell you that great wine starts in the vineyard, and we’re pleased to be able to say the Mt Bera vineyards are really striving to achieve that greatness.

Taking just four weeks and all over by the end of March, this year’s vintage was completed in record time. While overall tonnages were a little low, we’re ecstatic with the quality of fruit.

The Pinot bunches were small but that means more intense colour and flavour, the Merlot was balanced with excellent fruit exposure and we’re quietly confident the Cabernet Sauvignon fruit is the best we’ve ever produced.

Luckily, we were spared the extremes of frost and drought that have blighted many of the country’s wine regions this year. With winter upon us, the pruning done and the vines storing their energy ready for bud burst in spring, it’s time to wait until nature’s ready to work its magic once more.

If you’d like to join us to celebrate the return of vitality to the vineyard in spring - and experience a unique preview of what will become next year’s vintage - please check out the ‘upcoming events’ section.

Plus, should you find yourself in the United Kingdom, we're now exporting our Pinot through Outbacchus!

  AND THE WINNER IS....

Just as more people are discovering how enjoyable our wines are, we’re proud to say that some of the biggest names in the wine world are sending kudos our way too.

Australia’s most respected wine writer James Halliday recently awarded a near perfect 4.5 stars to our 2004 Boundless Horizons Merlot; while the highly influential Winestate magazine bestowed 3.5 stars upon our 2004 Pinot.

Of course, the best way to judge our wines is still to open up a bottle or two and taste them for yourself!

  YOU SHOULD'VE BEEN THERE

Adelaide's National Wine Centre recently played host to the annual Adelaide Hills winemakers ‘Pinot Envy' event. Mt Bera were privileged to be amongst the select list of wineries to put their Pinot up for the scrutiny and enjoyment by attendees.

A mere sixteen Pinot wines (including French, New Zealand, Victorian and Tasmanian ‘ring-ins') were included in the event with our 3.13 Pinot Noir more than holding its own against the field. As a celebration of all things Pinot, the event was an overwhelming success as well as a fitting homage to one of the most notoriously demanding and fickle – yet ultimately rewarding –grape varieties.

If you'd like to indulge in a little ‘Pinot Envy' of your own, Mt Bera's 2005 vintage 3.13 Pinot Noir is now available at our website, via mail order or at selected outlets.

Each edition we thank our readers for their support through a special offer available only via this newsletter. Make your friends happy and forward this offer to them!
